HFWCNY Funding to Advance Rural HealthThe Health Foundation for Western & Central New York recently launched an initiative aimed at advancing rural health equity across several counties in New York State. As part of this program, the Foundation awarded $450,000 in grants to six rural health networks, including Southern Tier Health Care System (STHCS). STHCS has been granted $75,000, which can be used at our discretion- with no strings attached- to address the healthcare needs of our rural communities. This funding was made possible by a generous donation of $9 million from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott to HFWCNY in late 2022. Unrestricted, trust-based giving allows recipients to determine how best to utilize the funds to meet the unique healthcare needs of their communities. STHCS aims to use the grant to address workforce shortages, provide caregiver navigation and support, and promote health equity in rural areas. We are thrilled to further the mission of STHCS! NY State of Health ChangesThe State of NY will be scaling back its expanded coverage that was implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic. This means that many consumers will need to reenroll and update their information for the first time in three years. To avoid any gaps in coverage, it is crucial that enrollees reenroll within their renewal window. If you know someone who has questions about reenrolling or the required information, feel free to refer them to Toni or Bethany for assistance.
