Blood Drives

Make an Appointment to Donate Blood
Accident and burn victims, people battling cancer, organ transplant patients, and those getting heart surgery, blood donation helps all of these patients and more. When you give with ConnectLife, you don’t just make a difference – you do it in your own community.

All the blood that ConnectLife collects stays local, helping nearly every hospital in Western New York’s eight counties, including Olean General Hospital, maintain safe inventory levels. ConnectLife is the sole supplier of blood products for OGH.

For every pint of blood donated, we save the lives of three of our neighbors!

Why to Donate Blood

  • Every 2 seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood
  • Each year, only 3% of the eligible population donates blood, which means supply may not meet demand
  • On donation can save up to three lives
  • Blood cannot be manufactured
  • Over 38,000 pints of blood are needed daily
  • Your blood can be used for cancer patients, victims of traumatic injuries, organ transplant surgeries, and so many more
  • Blood diversity is important as some people can only accept blood from specific types

How to Prepare

  • Eat Well & Hydrate – This will decrease the chance of you feeling faint after donating. Hydrating also can make your veins easier to spot!
  • Dress Comfortably – Make sure that your sleeves can be rolled up or removed as blood will be drawn from your forearm.
  • Focus on the Positive – If you are squeamish about giving blood, it can help to focus on why you are donating. You are saving lives!
  • Breathe & Relax – Let the staff know if you are nervous & take deep breaths. Avoid looking at the needle site if possible.
  • Celebrate! – Take a couple of moments after you’re done to celebrate! You’ve made a difference in your community.

Pint for a Pint

Throughout September, October, and November, we have partnered with Four Mile Brewing to offer a Pint for a Pint promotion at the blood drives at STHCS. Each donor who presents at STHCS will receive a coupon for a free pint of blood at 4MB!

Thank you to Four Mile for supporting the local blood supply with this great promotion!
