NYSARH Albany Advocacy Briefing This past Tuesday, I was able to attend the New York State Association of Rural Health (NYSARH)’s Albany Advocacy Briefing. There were several great presentations. I was impressed with NYS Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara, who is the Chair of the Rural Resources commissions and is a strong supporter of Rural EMS. We also heard from Jack Marzulli, who is part of the Reimagine NY Commission. He shared the importance of telecommunications to rural communities moving into the future. This briefing served as a great update to NYSARH members from across the state to ensure we are all on the same page moving forward on how we best can serve our rural communities. Thank you to NYSARH, Sara Wall Bollinger, Director for Strategic Development and Barry Brogan, Chair, Policy Committee for coordinating the briefing and bringing this valuable information to the Rural Health Networks across NYS. Know the 10 Warnings SignsThis week our program coordinator, Jordan Taylor, hosted a virtual class with the Alzheimer's Association of WNY as one of their volunteer community educators. We have been fortunate enough to continue to partner with the Association when holding these virtual educational classes for caregivers. The virtual format allows more caregivers to be able to participate in educational classes without having to leave their homes or their loved ones unattended. This week's class, Know the 10 Warning Signs, focused on learning some common signs of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. Know the 10 Warning Signs is a great tool to help caregivers determine if the changes they are noticing in their loved ones are dementia related or just normal signs of aging. This class seeks to give caregivers guidance and peace of mind when handling care for their loved ones in the possible beginning stages of Alzheimer's and dementia. Know the 10 Warning Signs will be hosted virtually by Jordan and the Alzheimer's Association again Monday, February 1 at 3:00 p.m. If you are interested in attending this amazing class you can register here.
