EMS State Council
This past week, Alicia and I spent time in Troy attending The New York State Emergency Medical Services Council and State Emergency Medical Advisory Committee meetings. In addition, I joined the Finance Sub-committee and participated for the first time as a member. We discussed the work the program agencies do across NYS and our value to the EMS system. These efforts were to help justify the recent request for increased funding as the program agency budget has remained unchanged since before 1997. Also, the SEMSCO ruled to grant a permanent operating certificate to Chautauqua County EMS for an ambulance service to cover Chautauqua County.
EMS was in the spotlight at the Public Health and Health Planning Council's Health Planning Committee Meeting. At this meeting, EMS turnaround times were discussed. Deputy Director Steve Dziura, Mark Philippy, and Dr. Jeremy Cushman represented the EMS field and did a great job discussing the current environment with the Health Planning Committee.
SBU Physician Assistant Study
We were able to meet with St. Bonaventure University Physician Assistant students Taylor Crimi and Alexis Drake and their professor Dr. Scott Medler on an upcoming research project they will be conducting on opioid use and Narcan administration in the area. I shared information about STHCS' Southern Tier Opioid Overdose Prevention Program and all the work we do to address SUD/OUD in our three-county catchment. I look forward to our collaboration and am excited to see their research project's results later this fall!
