Trauma-Informed Care Champion Learning Collaborative  

Sydney, our Safe Kids Coordinator, has completed the 11-month Trauma-Informed Care Champion Learning Collaborative (TICTAC) provided by the Institute on Trauma and Trauma-Informed Care at the University at Buffalo School of Social Work. Trauma-informed communities focus on improving the well-being of individuals who have experienced trauma, reducing the risk of further trauma, and creating safer and more compassionate communities. This approach recognizes the profound impact of trauma on individuals and aims to offer the necessary support and care for their healing and well-being. A special thank you goes to Ardent Solutions and the Health Foundation of Western New York for coordinating this collaboration, which has significantly improved community care. ​

Stroke Management for the EMS Provider

On Tuesday, we held a Continuing Medical Education (CME) event for EMS providers in our region, featuring a hybrid in-person/online format. Dr. Belle, Neurologist at Olean General Hospital (OGH), presented to a group of over 40 providers. Dr. Belle focused on the vital role of OGH as a primary stroke center, highlighting the importance of early intervention for stroke patients. 

The event also featured Upper Allegheny Health System’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Henri Lamothe, and OGH’s ER Director, Dr. Phil Senger, who shared valuable insights with attendees. The stroke scale, FAST-ED, was introduced as an effective tool for screening for possible Large Vessel Occlusion. We are grateful to everyone who participated, especially Dr. Belle, Dr. Lamothe, and Dr. Senger, for their contributions. Additionally, a special acknowledgment goes to Dr. Walters, EMS County Medical Director, who collaborated with Dr. Lamothe to ensure the implementation of a standardized stroke scale in the Southern Tier. Your collective efforts significantly impact our healthcare practices in the region. ​
