Southern Tier EMT-B Academy
Our first cohort of the Southern Tier EMT-B Academy is coming to a close. Eleven students have participated in this course here in Olean and Jamestown. These individuals are eager to complete their practical skills exam and test for NYS Certification in the coming weeks.
I want to thank the City of Olean Fire Department, Trans Am Ambulance Services, Jamestown Fire Department, and ALSTAR EMS for providing clinical opportunities for these students. The students have benefitted greatly from their experiences at each site. In addition, I want to thank each of the preceptors that worked with the students. Finally, this program would not be possible without the generosity of the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, and we are excited to continue this program in the future!
Our Safe Kids coalition has had a very busy summer! From holding a Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) course to hosting home alone and babysitting courses, we are thrilled to see the impact we are having in our community. We have been able to work with local EMS and provide several hundred bike helmets to the children in our three counties, and the children are safer because of this.
Upcoming, we will be hosting a babysitting course in Clymer and another in Olean. Additionally, we will be hosting a car seat check in September and partner with several local schools on Back to School Day. It is great to see this program grow, and I am looking forward to the future of this program. I want to thank the Health Foundation for Western and Central New York (HFWCNY) for supporting this program.
