EMS Active Load Balancing Field Guide & Webinar Follow up

11/22/2021

Thank you for attending Thursday’s conference call.

An Active Load Balancing Field Guide with EMS actions at each Level is attached.  Please read and review these actions with all providers in your agency and implement these steps prior to leaving the scene when appropriate. Agencies may elect to print this field guide and place in each of their ambulances for quick reference.  This field guide also contains the ER Status Board url and password.
REMINDER - *Information on the ED Status Report Dashboard is for official use only (FOUO) and is not to be shared publicly or outside the Emergency Services field*

The goal of our Active Load Balancing (ALB) plan serves to distribute patients to an appropriate facility given the patient’s condition and regional hospital capabilities in real time to provide patients timely access to medical care, to not exceed the capacities of any one hospital, to prevent hospital overcapacity that could lead to a diversion status, and to utilize EMS resources efficiently in the interest of public health.  Successful use of ALB will allow us to relieve some of the EMS burden on ED’s at times of high volume, allow for decompression of the department and reduce EMS wait times as much as possible.  Predetermined triggers allow for the activation of each of the 3 levels of ALB in collaboration with our local ED’s and hospital administrators to meet current system demands.  This plan may be utilized to meet future needs of our system beyond the current pandemic.

We are working to get the current level of ALB activation added to the web page. We appreciate all your support and feedback to improve patient care and the healthcare system for our providers during these challenging times.

Please let us know of any improvements to the web site we can make.  Your input and feedback is essential.  We are continuing to attempt to make the information more current.

Thank you for all you have done, and continue to do for our communities!
