I’m excited to share with you that Don Trzepacz Jr. will be our new, New York State Department of Health Bureau of EMS and Trauma Systems Regional EMS Program Representative starting today. Many of you may know him from his previous position as the Director of Air Medical Operations for Mercy Flight. While there, Don oversaw all the medical staff and was responsible for the day to day operations of the 911 scene and inter-facility responses of the organization. He also has served as a Superintendent/MSgt E-7 for the NY Air National Guard where he provided administrative and operational oversight of Aerospace Medical technicians.

We have had the opportunity to work with Don prior to his appointment to this position, and we look forward to collaborating with him in his new role. We are enthusiastic to begin working with him to enhance the development of EMS in the Southwestern Region and look forward to working with Don as our NYSBEMSTS regional rep and are hoping to have him be able to make a visit the Southwestern Region soon. I have been assured that our good friend Ed Mager is not abandoning us… that he will be mentoring Don as he moves into his new role.

FREE Community-Based Fall Prevention Class in Olean, NY
Have you turned down a chance to go out with family or friends because you were concerned about falling?  Do you have a fear of falling?  If so, A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls is a program for you.  The fear of falling can be just as dangerous as falling itself.  People who develop this fear often limit their activities, which can result in severe physical weakness, making the risk of falling even greater.  Many older adults also experience increased isolation and depression when they limit their interactions with family and friends.

A Matter of Balance can help people improve their quality of life and remain independent. A Matter of Balance is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. Participants learn to set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors, and learn simple exercises to increase strength and balance.

In recognition of National Fall Prevention Awareness Day, Ardent Solutions is partnering with Southern Tier Health Care System and Healthy Community Alliance to offer a Free “A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls” course, beginning September 24th and ending on October 22nd.

Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:00pm – 3:00pm at Southern Tier Health Care System at 150 North Union Street, Olean NY 14760.  Classes are open to the public.  Each class will build upon the previous week making it extremely important to attend all sessions. A workbook is provided to all attendees.

Pre-registration is required by contacting Ardent Solutions at 585-593-1738 by Friday, September 21, 2018.  Space is limited.  Funded in part by the Cattaraugus County United Way.
