NYS EMS Innovation Award WinnerI’m excited to share that we will receive the 2024 NYS EMS Agency Innovation Award at the Vital Signs Conference in Rochester this October. In 2021, to address the shortage of EMS responders and healthcare workers in New York State, we launched the Southern Tier EMT-B Academy. The Academy offers an accelerated, hands-on learning experience led by experienced instructors, allowing students to quickly master essential skills. By providing the program at no cost, we eliminate financial barriers, making it easier to recruit and retain new healthcare professionals. Since its launch, the Academy has trained 39 NYS-certified EMTs (and counting), with many advancing to paramedic and other healthcare roles. This success was made possible through collaboration with course sponsor Alstar, support from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, and the dedication of our instructors, along with the invaluable hands-on training provided by local EMS agencies and hospitals.
