What is a PECC?
A PECC is an individual or individuals who are responsible for coordinating pediatric-specific activities for your agency. Whoever your agency designates as the PECC(s) will be responsible for the following:
1. Being a resource for education on pediatric medications, equipment, and supplies.
2. Promoting and sharing pediatric continuing-education opportunities.
3. Encouraging pediatric simulations/hands on pediatric skills assessments.
4. Encouraging that fellow providers follow pediatric clinical-practice guidelines.
PECC(s) are more of a resource for enhancing pediatric care within the agency. Therefore the PECC does NOT need to have any special certifications but should be compassionate about promoting and encouraging the members in their agency to practice and be knowledgeable in pediatric emergency care. This could be done by the PECC establishing quarterly pediatric skills training or education sessions within the agency or promoting any pediatric training that your members could go to regionally or statewide.
