In order to be better prepared in case of an emergency, the File of Life is a magnetized pouch designed to adhere to a refrigerator door and holds an individual's important personal and medical information. The File of Life is intended for the elderly or any other person that has special medical needs. To date, over 56,000 File of Life packets have been distributed in the Southern Tier area.
Southern Tier Health Care System, in partnership with its member agencies, designed the information card and distributes the "File" free of charge to the public. The File of Life is something that each and every home should have completed and hanging on the refrigerator door. It is located in a red plastic envelope with a magnetic strip on the back. The "File" should be in plain view of any emergency response personnel. Emergency teams are trained to look for the packet when responding to Southern Tier homes.
