Successful Training...
STHCS held the first EMS specialty course since becoming the specialty course sponsor for
the southwestern region earlier this year. The course, organized by STEMS regional
coordinator Cathi Peters, was a certified instructor update (CIU). This training helps some of
the 50 certified EMS instructors from our region remain certified. The 27 participants were
from all over the southwestern region and some even traveled from Erie and Wyoming
counties. STHCS would like to thank Olean General Hospital for the generous use of their
education center for the course. Also, we would like to recognize Ron Hasson, Christine
Johnson, Mickey Forness, Phil Wilson and Ed Mager (NYS DOH) for taking the time to teach
the course. Without the help of our friends from around the region we wouldn’t be able to
make these classes such a success! Thank you all and we look forward to planning courses
for the future.

Another Grant Out the Door...
We sent our Cessation Center grant proposal to the NYS Department of Health requesting to
remain a lead agency for the Tobacco Control Cessation Center program. Since our grant
writer Dawn Karl is out on maternity leave... I need to send a big thank you to all the staff that
step in to help get this grant out. This was definitely a team effort and I'm very proud to have
such a great team that comes together in the time of need.
