Effective September 1, 2008, the household income eligibility level for subsidized Child Health Plus enrollment will increase from 250 percent to 400 percent of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). There will be a six month waiting period for children in families whose household income is between 251 percent and 400 percent of the FPL who dropped employer-based insurance during the six month period prior to the date of application with the following exceptions: involuntary loss of job resulting in loss of health insurance, death of family member resulting in loss of child's coverage, change in job and new job does not offer health insurance, moved and no employer-based insurance is available, employer stopped offering health insurance, health benefits were terminated due to a long-term disability, COBRA expired, or child applying for Child Health Plus is pregnant. Any questions should be directed to Kristi Blehar by calling STHCS or via email at kristi@sthcs.org
As part of its emergency medical services program, STHCS is co-sponsoring a Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) class with EMSTAR tomorrow in Olean. The PALS course provides both prehospital and hospital providers with specialized training to treat critically ill or injured pediatric patients. Olean General Hospital has graciously agreed to provide their classroom for the class which will have approximately 20 students from around the southwestern region. EMSTAR, a non-profit corporation from Elmira, will be teaching the course and has generously offered our students the class at reduced cost. Through its EMS program STHCS has provided advertisement and registration, and we will offer lunch for the students as well. Thank you to Olean General Hospital and EMSTAR for kindly working with us to bring this essential class to the area.
