SANE training continues
STHCS held a training session at its office last week to help the medical providers who
completed the didactic portion of SANE training last fall. In order to become a certified
examiner the providers have to complete clinical training. We helped them obtain the required
four hours of clinical training with law enforcement. The providers learned about law
enforcement’s role as the initial responder in a variety of situations to help them gain insight
into the related processes and procedures.

Reality Check participates in state youth summit
Anna Prudente, our Reality Check coordinator, attended the annual Reality Check Statewide
Youth Summit last week. The three-day event was held at Union College in Schenectady.
During the summit, the youths focused on publicizing the program’s four main initiatives:
smoke-free movies, smoke-free periodicals, eliminating tobacco retail advertising and
eliminating tobacco sponsorship and promotion. The youths split up into groups with one
group at the Empire State Plaza and the rest at area parks putting on skits to help spread their
anti-tobacco message.
