Thank You...

I want to thank Senator Catharine Young for all her effort in securing $600,000 from the state
for Universal Primary Care (UPC) in Olean. This funding will help UPC become financially
secure. I’m also grateful for Olean General Hospital’s willingness to assist UPC over the years.
The future of UPC would be uncertain if it weren’t for this funding and the hospital’s support.

SAFE in the Southern Tier

Southern Tier Health Care System, Inc.,  is back on track with the Sexual Assault Forensic
Examiner (S.A.F.E.) program. I’ve attended a couple of meetings during which we started
preliminary steps to begin the program. We are working with the 18 providers from the tri-
county area who completed the didactic portion of the S.A.F.E. training in November. They still
need to finish the clinical portion of the training before becoming certified S.A.F.E. providers.
Several planning meetings will be held in the next few months with local organizations and
hospitals to ensure we are meeting the needs and ensuring the safety of sexual assault
victims. Our goal is to have the program up and running by August 2008.
