Establishing Relationships...
We are planning to meet with representatives of all 92 EMS agencies in our catchment area. In
order to do this, Cathi and Josh, the regional EMS coordinators, are planning to hold at least
four meetings in each county on different days of the week and at different times in an attempt
to ensure that at least one meeting in each county is convenient for the agencies. The
meetings are also being held in different communities to minimize travel for the agency
representatives.
The first of these meetings was held this week in Allegany County. The three other Allegany
County meetings will be held on Monday, April 7, at 7 p.m. at a location to be determined;
Saturday, April 26, at 11 a.m. at the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps; and on Thursday,
May 8, at 6 p.m. at the Richburg Firemen’s Clubhouse.
The first meeting in Cattaraugus County is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27,
at the Machias Fire Department. The locations, times and dates for the other meetings in
Cattaraugus County have not been finalized but will be announced. The regional coordinators
are also working on the details for the meetings in Chautauqua County.
These meetings are being held to introduce STEMS and the services we provide to the
agencies, to answer EMS-related questions that providers may have and to begin the process
of establishing relationships with each agency. The meetings will become annual meetings to
ensure we are meeting the ever-changing needs of EMS providers.

Chautauqua County CAC
I’m meeting with Dave Foley, the Chautauqua County District Attorney, today. We’re
continuing to move forward with Southern Tier Health Care System becoming the lead agency
for the Chautauqua County CAC. After this meeting, I will have a better understanding of what
role they feel STHCS can provide. The district attorney’s office is the current lead for the
program and Mr. Foley has encouraged the multidisciplinary team to accept our organization
as the lead. I believe establishing a transition plan and outlining the roles of STHCS and the
MDT of Chautauqua County will begin at this meeting.

Meeting with the Governor
I was excited to be one of 30 business and community leaders to meet with Governor Eliot
Spitzer along with Senator Catharine Young and Assemblyman Joseph Giglio on Wednesday
in Olean. Gov. Spitzer talked briefly before telling us that he wanted to hear feedback and
answer questions on state issues regarding healthcare, education and economic
development. His discussion on healthcare included issues such as Doctors Across New York,
managed care and the money managed care companies earn and legislation to reduce costs
associated with medical malpractice. The meeting was interesting and I was glad to be invited.
