Meeting with State EMS Officials

Cathi, Josh, and I met with Cynthia McCloud, James Mihalko and Edward Mager from the New
York State DOH Western Regional Office of Emergency Medical Services on Monday. We
shared with them the activities of the Southern Tier Emergency Medical System (STEMS) and
discussed how to move forward with our quality assurance/improvement program and how to
proceed as we wait to become a specialty course sponsor.

They were pleased with the progress we’ve made since becoming program agency for the
Southwestern Regional EMS Council and encouraged us to continue our activities. The three
of them were impressed with the STEMS website and the WREMAC website, for which we are
responsible. We will meet with them again in May along with staff from the other EMS program
agencies in Western New York.

We continue to move forward...

I met with Dave Foley, Chautauqua County District Attorney, last Friday to discuss STHCS
becoming the lead agency for the Chautauqua County’s child advocacy center (CAC). I met
with Dave after several meetings with their program manager and other MTD members. He
shared with me that he would like STHCS to become the lead agency. He plans to meet with
the county’s multidisciplinary team (MDT) and encourage them to accept our organization as
the lead agency. After the MDT agrees to have STHCS become the lead agency, we will
create a transition plan so we could take over in a couple of months.

I want to thank Howard Howlett, our board chair, for his efforts in contacting Dave.

Kristi exchanges ideas

Kristi attended the Chautauqua County Health Network’s Community Health Initiative
Committee meeting on Wednesday. The committee discusses different aspects of health care
in the county including facilitated enrollment of Child Health Plus and Family Health Plus. The
committee reviewed Department of Social Services updates and changes to the facilitated
enrollment program. Additionally, they brainstormed ideas for celebrating Cover the Uninsured
Month. At the meeting Kristi was able to exchange information with a representative of the Get
Covered Helpline, which informs residents about existing health insurance programs and who
to contact to enroll in the programs. The Helpline can be reached by calling 1-888-753-7315
and is sponsored by Community Health Initiative and the Chautauqua County Health Network.
