A Quick Introduction to...
Southern Tier Health Care System, Inc.
Southern Tier Health Care System, Inc. (STHCS) is a three-county rural health network
serving Allegany, Cattaraugus, and Chautauqua counties whose mission is to “improve the
wellness of our rural communities.” We are one of 35 rural health networks designated by the
New York State Department of Health.
STHCS was established in 1994 as a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization and is
headquartered in Blue Bird Square, Olean. Our organization is member-driven, with the
membership including hospitals, physician groups, county departments of health, home care
providers, and ambulatory medical care providers.
STHCS performs extensive community outreach and education programs on various general
health-related issues, and also on specific issues such as asthma, diabetes, dental health,
nutrition and physical activity, tobacco cessation, and developmental disabilities. STHCS has
been recognized locally and regionally for its impact on health care in its catchment area. We
divide our efforts into six categories that we believe best accomplish the mission of
STHCS…Education, Facilitated Enrollment, Interaction with Elected Officials, Network/Member
Facilitation, Recruitment, and Community Partnerships.
